1/7/21 A new passenger boat service is now operating from Truro to Falmouth, stooping at Malpas and Trelissick Gardens enroute. Contact Truro Boat Sevices for daily ferry times and ticket bookings .

5/7/20 The Heron Inn has opened up following lockdown. For the present tables need to be booked in order to eat/drink so it is well to book ahead! You can order food/drink to take away from them though do check with the pub when you arrive as there may be time windows  on when you can order take away food.

They have converted their car park to provide additional seating, which whilst good for diners, has increased the pressure on parking in the village. During our stay (5-11th Jul) we found that there was least disruption for us by timing our car trips to avoid peak eating times at the pub.

19/7/20 Enterprise Ferry- sadly during our last visit the passenger ferry was not yet operating from/to Malpas Truro, though it had just opened services from Trelissick to Falmouth and St Mawes. We recommend checking online for an update on their services.

General advice- Many shops and restaurants have only recently re-opened and therefore are still finding their feet in terms of how they can operate safely going forwards. Our experience was that to avoid disappointment,  it is very important to plan ahead of any excursion, make reservations etc. We had a fantastic stay in Cornwall but eating out/shopping/indoor destination experiences were not surprisingly more limited. Don’t assume, as we sometimes did, that you can  just roll up as you did last year and get served, as you may not!

We didn’t venture much further afield on this trip so I can not vouch for other establishments but my advice would be to call ahead to find out what their policy is to avoid disappointment. I am sure things will gradually improve as more places open up and the pent-up demand to escape ones bolt hole and semi-socialise eases. It will get better I keep telling myself and in the meantime I’ll just keep sipping and enjoy that view.

1/5/21 My oh my a lot has gone on in the world since we last visited Malpas. The Heron Inn has re-opened again and is now serving great food and much needed tonic. They have 8 bookable tables that need to reserved WELL IN ADVANCE in order to secure. We were unsuccessful on our trip. The good news is they do have another 12 or so tables that are ‘turn up and eat’. Thankfully because we are so close you can pretty much watch them come free from the terrace so eating out during your stay shouldn’t be a problem.
